Give reason Hydrocarbons are excellent fuels ?

Hydrocarbons such as alkanes undergo combustion reactions with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water vapour. Alkanes are flammable which makes them excellent fuels. Methane for example is the principal component of natural gas.
