उत्तर

A piece of wood becomes black because carbon is set free when cellulose \[\ce{[C6H10O5]n}\] gets charred by conc. \[\ce{H2SO4}\].

\[\ce{[C6H10O5]n ->[conc. H2SO4] 6[C]n + 5[H2O]n}\]

Copy and complete the following table:

Column 1
Substance reacted with acid
Column 2
Dilute or concentrated acid
Column 3
Gas
    Hydrogen
    Carbon dioxide
    Only chlorine

 Distinguish between the following pairs of compounds using the reagent given in the bracket.
Ferrous sulphate solution and ferric sulphate solution. (Using sodium hydroxide solution)

How are the following conversion brought about? Give equation and condition:
Sulphur trioxide to oleum.

How will you distinguish between conc. HCl and conc. H2SO4?

Name two other acids other than sulphuric acid, which can be prepared by using sulphuric acid.

A, B, C and D summarise the properties of sulphuric acid depending on whether it is dilute or concentrated.
A = Typical acid property
B = Non-Volatile acid
C = Oxidising agent
D = Dehydrating agent

Choose the property (A, B, C or D) depending on which is relevant to each of the following :
(i) Preparation of hydrogen chloride gas
(ii) Preparation of copper sulphate from copper oxide
(iii) Action of cone, sulphuric acid on sulphur

Write a balanced chemical equation when hot and concentrated sulphuric acid reacts with the following:

Carbon

Arrange the following as per the instruction given in the bracket:

Sulphuric acid, Phosphoric acid, Acetic acid (increasing order of number of replaceable H atoms per molecule).
