How does the Human Development Index rank the countries?

The Human Development Index assesses countries based on how well they do in important areas such as health, education, and resource access. These rankings are based on a 0 to 1 score that a country receives depending on its performance in major areas of human development. Each of these dimensions is given a 1/3 weight. The HDI is the total of all of these dimensions' weights added together. The higher the score, the higher the level of human development.
