प्रश्न
If the mean of 2, 4, 6, 8, x, y is 5, then find the value of x + y.
उत्तर
The given data is 2,4,6,8,x,y. They are 6 in numbers.
The mean is
`(2+4+6+8+x+y)/6`
`=(20+x+y)/6`
But, it is given that the mean is 5. Hence, we have
`=(20+x+y)/6 = 5`
⇒ 20 + x + y = 30
⇒ x + y = 30 - 20
⇒ x + y = 10
