Hamel also passionately talked about the importance of nationalism, emphasizing the need to create a deep love for one's country at a young age. In order to prevent their attachment to their language from deteriorating as they get older, parents should instill this sentiment in their kids. He is aware of the emotional grip that a language has on its speakers. He went on to say that he felt bad about not having further opportunity to teach French to primary school pupils during his final class in Alsace.
