Kabir, one of the most revered saints during the Bhakti movement, was born into a Muslim family of weavers. In the following ways, his philosophy made a significant contribution to the Bhakti movement:
- He placed a lot of emphasis on living a very simple life with few material possessions. He held that spirituality, not material wealth, is the source of true happiness.
- He respected all religions and held the notion of the unity of God in high regard.
- He believed that one could come to God and opposed performing rituals to get closer to him through the purification of one's soul, one comes close to God.
