नदी खलु जवनदायिनी। अतः अस्मिनवसरे कृतज्ञतां प्रदर्शयितुं जनाः जले दीपदानं कुर्वन्ति। द्रोणे दीपं प्रज्वाल्य नदीजले समर्पयन्ति। जलं प्राशनार्थम्। कृषिवर्धनार्थम्। सजीवानां कृते नदी देवितमा। नदी मातृतमा। |

The river is indeed a given of life-down. That is why people offer lamps in water to express indebtedness on this occasion. After having lit lamps, in dry-leaf-bowl, they float those on river water. Water is essential for drinking and nourishing agriculture, for generating electricity and for sustenance of human life. For living beings, river is supreme goddess; enlightened mother. |
