• The nose features a pair of slit-like apertures called external nares or nostrils for entry of air into the nasal cavity.
• The nasal cavity is divisible into right and left nasal chambers by a mesethmoid cartilage.
• Each nasal chamber is separated into three sections.-

1. The proximal part is the vestibule. It has a hairy skin that filters the air and traps dust and suspended particles in the air that is inhaled.
2. The respiratory section, also known as the conditioner, is the central thin-walled, highly vascular component responsible for warming and moistening the breathed air.
3. The olfactory or sensory chamber is the topmost region of the nose that is lined by olfactory epithelium.
