प्रश्न
Our resources cannot keep pace with the rising population. Give three examples in support of this statement.
उत्तर
- Food: One of the most important needs of humans (or any living organism) is food. It is true that humans have been discovering better and better methods to produce more food, but it cannot be in the same proportion as the rise in population. Food production follows an arithmetic progression, whereas population expansion occurs geometrically.
- Water: The availability of clean and germ-free water for drinking purposes would be more and more scarce with the increase in population; the reason would be mainly the pollution of rivers, ponds, lakes, etc.
- Land: Man is bringing more and more land under cultivation and also using up land for building more residential colonies, factories, and industries. Usable land would thus become less and less available.
