प्रश्न
State the colour which bends:
- The most.
- The least while passing through a glass prism.
उत्तर
- Violet is the colour that bends the most when white light travels through a glass prism because it has the shortest wavelength and is refracted the most.
- Red, on the other hand, is the colour that bends the least because it has the longest wavelength and experiences the least amount of refractive error. Indigo, blue, green, yellow, and orange are the other colours of the spectrum, which are indicated in order of increasing wavelength.

Describe an activity to show that colours of white light splitted by a glass prism can be recombined to get white light by another identical glass prism. Also draw ray diagram to show the recombination of the spectrum of white light.
After tracing the path of a ray of light through a glass prism a student marked the angle of incidence (∠i), angle of refraction (∠r) angle of emergence (∠e) and the angle of deviation (∠D) as shown in the diagram. The correctly marked angles are :
(A) ∠i and ∠r
(B) ∠i and ∠e
(C) ∠i, ∠e and ∠D
(D) ∠i, ∠r and ∠e
Fill in the blank with suitable word:
When a ray of light enters a prism, it bends ................ the normal ; as it leaves the prism, it bends ................. the normal.
Draw a diagram to show the refraction of light through a glass prism. On this diagram, mark
(i) incident ray
(ii) emergent ray, and
(iii) angle of deviation.
The diagram below shows the path taken by a narrow beam of yellow monochromatic light passing through an equiangular glass prism. If the yellow light is replaced by a narrow beam of white light incident at the same angle, draw another diagram to show the passage of white light through the prism and label it to show the effect of prism on the white light.
While performing the experiment to trace the path of a ray of light passing through a glass prism, four students marked the incident ray and the emergent ray in their diagrams in the manner shown below.
(A) I
(B) II
(C) III
(D) IV
A student has to trace the path of a ray of light through a glass prism. List four precautions he should observe for better results.
How can the presence of ultraviolet radiation be detected?
What do you understand by spectrum? Name the seven prominent colours in order, as obtained in the spectrum of white light.
Suggest one way, in each case, by which we can detect the presence of Infrared radiations.
