The judges of the Supreme Court are appointed by the President after consulting such judges of the Supreme Court and the High Courts as the President may deem necessary. While appointing the judges other than the Chief Justice of India, the Chief Justice has to be consulted. The Chief Justice in turn has to consult four of his senior most colleagues in the Supreme Court before he forwards his recommendations to the President.
