1. The chemical reaction occuring in electrochemical cells involves transfer of electrons from one species to the other. It is a redox reaction.
2. Electrochemical reactions, are made of oxidation and reduction half reactions.
3. The oxidation half reaction occurs at one electrode and the reduction half reaction occurs at the other electrode. The net cell reaction is the sum of these half reactions.
