What is difference between Bottom up and Top Down Approach with respect to Nanotechnology.

In nano science, we are suppose to arrive at nano scale assembly. This can be
obtained by two approaches:
1) Bottom Up Approach:
In this nano materials are made by building atom by atom or molecule by molecule.
2) Top Down Approach:
In this a bulk material is broken in size or pattern. The techniques developed under
this tile are modified or improved one what we have in use to fabricate microprocessors,
Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems(MEMS) etc.
