What is the position of the President of India?

Theoretically speaking, all the powers are vested in the President according to Article 53(1) of the Constitution. The President can exercise those powers directly or through officers under him. According to Article 74(1) of the Indian Constitution, the President has to exercise his functions on the basis of aid and advice of the Prime Minister and his Council of Ministers.
