  1. District Forum - District Forum is set up in each district by the concerned State Government. It comprises of a president and two or more members, one of whom should be a woman. A consumer can to file a complaint in a District forum in case the value of goods in question, along with the compensation that is claimed is less than Rs 20 lakh.
  2. State Commission - The state government establishes a State Commission to address consumer complaints. State Commission, like District Forum, has a President and two or more members, one of whom should be a woman. A customer can register a complaint with the State Commission if the value of the goods/services in question, as well as the compensation sought, is more than Rs 20 lakh but less than Rs 1 crore.
  3. National Commission - The Central Government established the National Commission. It has a President and at least four members, one of whom is a woman. If the value of the items in question, as well as the compensation sought, exceeds Rs 1 crore, a customer can submit a complaint with the National Commission. The commission issues an order after consulting the sample proofs and hearing from the relevant party. If the aggrieved party is not satisfied with the order, an appeal to the Supreme Court can be lodged.
