Why is the issue of sustainability important for development?
Why is the issue of sustainability important for development? Explain with examples.
उत्तर
- The rapid pace of development has resulted in a number of serious environmental issues, including resource depletion, habitat loss for living things, and land degradation. These issues pose a serious threat to survival and must be resolved quickly.
- Sustainable development refers to meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations. For example, in the case of groundwater, if we use more than what is being replenished by rain, then we would be overusing this resource.
- Overusing a resource means that future generations won't have access to it. Sustainability, therefore, ensures that the resource is not overused and aids in ensuring that subsequent generations receive a fair share.
