प्रश्न

Will the levels of biological magnification be different at different levels of the ecosystem?

थोडक्यात उत्तर

उत्तर १

The levels of biomagnification will be different at different trophic levels. For example, in a pond of water, DDT was sprayed and the producers were found to have 0.04 ppm concentration of DDT. Since many types of plankton are eaten by some fish and clams, their bodies accumulate 0.23 ppm of DDT. A seagull that feeds on clams accumulates more DDT as one seagull eats many clams. Hawk, the top carnivore, has the highest concentration of DDT.

उत्तर २

The level of these harmful substances will go on increasing from one trophic level to the next. When certain harmful substances enter the food chain at the level of primary producers, they get concentrated many times at each subsequent trophic level.
