• India is located in South Asia and is the seventh-largest country in the world by land area. It lies entirely in the Northern Hemisphere, extending from 8°4'N to 37°6'N latitude and 68°7'E to 97°25'E longitude. The Tropic of Cancer (23°30'N) passes almost through the middle of the country.
• India is bordered by Pakistan to the northwest, China and Nepal to the north, Bhutan to the northeast, and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. It is surrounded by the Arabian Sea to the west, the Indian Ocean to the south, and the Bay of Bengal to the east.
• India has a total land area of 3.28 million square kilometres and a coastline of about 7,516 kilometres, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal and the Lakshadweep Islands in the Arabian Sea.
