A society for crafts and crafts people Dastkar is a registered society that aims at improving the economics of craftspeople, thereby promoting the survival of crafts. It was founded in 1981 by six women, who had worked in the craft development sector including Laila Tyabji, who is the current chairperson. This organization strongly believes in "craft" as a social, cultural and economic force that despite being marginalized due to urbanization and industrialization has enormous and potential and has a vital role to play within the economic mainstream of the country. 

1. The aim of the program is to help crafts people, especially women, to utilize their own traditional craft skills as a means of employment, income generation and economic self-sufficiency.
2. Crafts skills range from textile based craft producer group to terracotta. The product ranges developed includes garments, accessories, home furnishing, toys and object d'art.
