Write about the composition location and term of the judges of the Supreme court.

In the beginning, in 1950 our Supreme Court consisted of 8 judges including the Chief justice. As the passage of time is in need at present, the Supreme Court consists of 28 judges including Chief justice.

The Constitution also provides the appointment of judges to the supreme court on an ad – hoc (temporary) basis.

1. The Chief justice and other judges of the Supreme Court can hold office up to the age of 65 years.
2. The judges of the Supreme Court can resign before their term by giving their resignation in writing to the President.
3. The Parliament also has the power to remove the judges by invoking impeachment provisions for their proven misbehavior.
4. The Supreme Court sits in New Delhi. It may also sit any other place in India which may be decided by the Chief Justice of India with the approval of the President.
