प्रश्न
Write the reaction involved in sol-gel process during hydrolysis.
उत्तर
Sols are dispersions of colloidal particles in a liquid. A gel is an interconnected, rigid network. A sol-gel process is based on inorganic polymerisation reactions, which are widely employed to prepare oxide materials.
The reaction involved in the sol-gel process is
\[\ce{\underset{(Metal alkoxide)}{MOR} + H2O -> MOH + ROH}\] (Hydrolysis) (Metal alkoxide)
\[\ce{MOH + ROH -> M-O-M + ROH}\] (Condensation)
- M represents a metal atom (such as Si, Ti, etc.),
- OROR is an alkoxide group, and
- ROHROH is the resulting alcohol.
