Question
A 300 metre long train moving with an average speed of 126 km/hr. crosses a platform in 24 seconds. A man crosses the same platform in 5 minutes. What is the speed of man in metre/second?
Options
1.8 metre/second
1.2 metre/second
1.5 metre/second
Cannot be determined
MCQ
Solution
1.8 metre/second
Explanation:
Let the length of the platform be x metre.
Speed of train = 126 kmph
= `((126 xx 5)/18)` m/sec
= 35 m/sec
∴ Speed of train = `(x + 300)/24`
⇒ 35 = `(x + 300)/24`
⇒ `35 xx 24 = x + 300`
⇒ 840 = `x + 300`
⇒ `x` = 840 – 300 = 540 metre
∴ Speed of man = `"Distance"/"Time"`
= `540/(5 xx 60)`
= 1.8 m/sec
