Question

A and B shared a profit of 24500 rupees in the proportion 3:7. Each of them gave 2% of his share of the profit to the Soldiers’ Welfare Fund. What was the actual amount given to the Fund by each of them?

Sum

Solution 1

Amount of share to the Soldiers’ Welfare Fund = 2% of 24500

= 490 rupees

The profit is shared in the proportion of 3:7.

Therefore, A’s share of the Fund is given by

= `3/10xx490`

= 147 rupees

Therefore, B’s share of the Fund is given by

= `7/10xx490`

= 343 rupees

Hence, A's and B's share to the fund are 147 and 343 rupees respectively.

Solution 2

Step 1: Total profit and ratio

The total profit is 24,500 rupees, and the ratio of A to B is 3:7.

Calculate A's share:

A’s share = `3/(3+7) xx 24500 = 3/10 xx 24500 = 7350` rupees

Calculate B's share:

B’s share = `7/(3+7)xx24500 = 7/10 xx 24500 = 17150` rupees

Step 2: Each contributes 2% of their share

A's contribution to the Fund:

A’s contribution = 2% × 7350 = 0.02 × 7350 = 147 rupees

B's contribution to the Fund:

B’s contribution = 2% × 17150 = 0.02 × 17150 = 343 rupees

  • A contributed 147 rupees to the Soldiers' Welfare Fund.
  • B contributed 343 rupees to the Soldiers' Welfare Fund.
