the height from which the ball was released

Time taken, t = 3s; g = 9.8 m/s²

Initial velocity, u = 0 (because the body starts from rest)

Using the second equation of motion,

S = ut + (1/2) gt²

We get,

S = 0 + (1/2) (9.8) (3) (3)

S = 44.1 m
