Question
A number is increased by 10% and the resulting number is again increased by 20%. What is the overall percentage increase in the number?
Solution
Let the number be = 100
Increased by 10%
∴ New number = 100 + 10 = 110
Increased by 20%
∴ Net increase = `(110 xx 20)/(100)` = 22
∴ New number = 110 + 22 = 132
Overall change = 132 - 100 = 32 (increase)
∴ Increase %
= `(32)/(100) xx 100` = 32%
