Question

A resistor of 6 Ω is connected in series with another resistor of 4 Ω. A potential difference of 20 V is applied across the combination. Calculate

  1. the current in the circuit and
  2. the potential difference across the 6 Ω resistor.
Numerical

Solution

Total resistance in series R = 6 + 4 = 10 Ω

V = 20 V

  1. ∴ I = `"V"/"R"`
    = `20/10`
    = 2 A
  2. potential difference across 6 Ω is V = IR
    V = 2 × 6
    V = 12 V
