Question
A shopkeeper sells one transistor for ₹ 840 at a gain of 20% and another for ₹ 960 at a loss of 4%. His total gain or loss percent is
Options
`5 15/17%` loss
`5 15/17%` gain
`6 2/3%` gain
None of these
MCQ
Solution
`5 15/17%` gain
Explanation :
SP of first transistor = ₹ 840
Gain % = 20%
∴ CP of the first transistor = `100/(100 + 20) xx 840`
= `100/120 xx 840` = ₹ 700
Again, SP of the second transistor = 960
Loss % = 4%
∴ CP of the second transistor = `100/(100 - 4%) xx 960`
= `100/96 xx 960` = ₹ 1000
∴ Total SP = 840 + 960 = ₹ 1800
And total CP = 700 + 1000 = ₹ 1700
Hence, gain % = `(1800 - 1700)/1700 xx 100`
= `100/17 = 5 15/17%`
