Question
Alka spends 90% of the money that she receives every month, and saves Rs. 120. How much money does she get monthly?
Solution
Let her monthly income be Rs 'x'
Savings = Rs 120
Expenditure = 90% of x = `(90)/100 x`
Income = Expenditure + Savings
x = `(90x)/100 + 120`
x - 120 = `(90x)/100`
100 (x - 120) = 90x
100x - 12000 = 90x
100x - 90x = 12000
10x = 12000
x = `12000/10`
x = 1200
Thus, total monthly salary = Rs 1200.
