Solution

All the surfaces are frictionless. Strings are light and frictionless. The tension in string 1 is 8 N. (Take g = 10 m/s2)

Explanation:

Now, applying newton's law of motion

2g – T = 2a       ...(i)

T = `(1+1/3)`a   ...(ii)

 From equation (i) and (ii)

⇒ 2g = `(2+4/3)`a

⇒ 2g = `10/3`a

⇒ a = `(2gxx3)/10`

⇒ a = `(2xx3xx10)/10`    (∵ g = 10 m/s2)

⇒ a = 6 ms2

So, tension in the string

T = `(1+1/3)`× 6

⇒ T = `4/3` × 6

⇒ T = 8 N

Hence, the tension in string 1 is 8 N.
