State the telecom services as a means of communication.
Solution
Telecom services play an important role in the growth and development of a country. These services form the backbone of all business transactions. The following are the various types of telecom services available in any country:
i. Cellular mobile service - It includes voice and non-voice transmission services and data transmission services.
ii. Radio paging service - Information is transmitted in the form of a tone , numeric or alphanumeric message.
iii. Broadband communication - It includes setting up of internet connections so as to facilitate communication. India stands at third position with a large population using internet facilities.
iv. Cable service - It facilitates the transmission of media-related information to a defined area for which a licence has been acquired.
v. VSAT service - It is a satellite-based communication service through which information can be transmitted to far-flung and remote areas.
vi. DTH service - It is a telecom service provided by DTH companies. The companies transmit TV channels to customers through satellites.
