Question
Answer the following question.
Write two different ways in which glucose is oxidized to provide energy in the human body. Write the products formed in each case.
Solution
Glucose can be oxidized via the aerobic pathway or the anaerobic pathway. When oxidized via the aerobic pathway it leads to the formation of carbon dioxide, water, and energy (ATP molecules).
In humans, anaerobic respiration occurs in muscle cells when they are fatigued. During this phase, lactic acid fermentation takes place and results in the production of lactic acid and two molecules of ATP.
