Question
Arrange the given fraction in descending order by making numerator equal:
`1/10, 6/11, 8/11 "and" 3/5`
Solution
`1/10, 6/11, 8/11 "and" 3/5`
L.C.M. of numerators 1, 6, 8 and 3 = 24
`therefore 1/10 = (1 xx 24)/(10 xx 24) = 24/240`
`6/11 = (6 xx 4)/(11 xx 4) = 24/44`
`8/11 = (8 xx 3)/(11 xx 3) = 24/33`
`3/5 = (3 xx 8)/(5 xx 8) = 24/40`
It is clear from the above that
`24/33> 24/40 > 24/44 > 24/240`
or `8/11 > 3/5 > 6/11 > 1/10`
Hence, `8/11, 3/5, 6/11, 1/10` are in descending order.
