Questions

Briefly explain any five factors responsible for the destruction of the eco system.

Explain any two causes responsible for the destruction of the eco-system.

Answer in Brief

Solution

Factors responsible for destruction of ecosystem are given below:

  1. Population Growth: Rapid population growth increases demand for resources, including land, water, and food. This causes overexploitation of natural resources, deforestation for agricultural expansion, and increased garbage output. As the population rises, the burden on ecosystems increases, resulting in habitat destruction, biodiversity loss, and higher pollution levels. The growth of metropolitan areas to accommodate expanding populations has a negative impact on natural environments, affecting ecosystems.
  2. Industrialisation: Setting up of more and more industries and expansion of existing industrial units is leading to clearing of forest land and fertile agricultural, land. Biological diversity is being lost forever. Industrial wastes and manufacturing processes have a direct adverse effect on the environment. Industries produce chemicals, fertilisers, dyes, paints. Industrialisation is an important cause of air pollution and water pollution.
  3. Dwelling of Business Units: In order to accommodate the migrating population to industries and commercial cities, more dwelling units are being developed.
  4. Transport: The development and usage of transportation infrastructure contribute to air pollution through car emissions, habitat fragmentation caused by road and railway construction, and ship oil spills. These effects harm air quality, restrict wildlife movement, and damage ecosystems.
  5. Tourism: Unsustainable tourist practices can harm the environment. High tourist traffic can damage soil erosion, disrupt wildlife, and produce large amounts of waste. Also, the development of tourism infrastructure often grows in natural areas, destroying ecosystems.
