Question
Carry out the following addition of a rational number.
`1 2/3 + 2 4/5`
Sum
Solution
`1 2/3 + 2 4/5`
`= (1xx3+2)/3 + (2xx5+4)/5`
`= 5/3 +14/5`
Now, the LCM of 3 and 5 is 15.
`5/3 + 14/5`
`= (5 xx 5)/(3 xx 5) + (14 xx 3)/(5 xx 3)`
`= 25/15 + 42/15`
` = (25 + 42)/15`
`= 67/15`
