Question
Carry out the following subtraction involving a rational number.
`1 2/3 - 3 5/6`
Solution
`1 2/3 - 3 5/6`
= `(1 xx 3 + 2)/3 - (3 xx 6 + 5)/6`
= `5/3 - 23/6`
Now, LCM of 3 and 6 is 6.
= `5/3 - 23/6`
= `(5xx2)/(3xx2) - (23)/(6)`
= `10/6 - 23/6`
= `(10 - 23)/6`
= `(-13)/6`
