Question

⦁ Determine the magnetic field required to bend a beam consisting of electrons of speed 3  × 10 m/s in a circle of radius 5 cm.

Numerical

Solution

For the case of transverse field:
`BeV = (mv^2 )/ R`
`R = (m / e) (v / B)`

For an electron with velocity 5 cm

`5 xx 10^(-2) =( (9.1 xx 10_(-31)) /( 1.6 xx 10_(-19) )) xx ( (3 xx 10_7) / B)`

`B= (9.1 xx 10^(-31) )/ ( 1.6 xx 10_(-19)) xx  (3 xx 10_7) / (5 xx 10_(-2)) `

`B = 3.413 xx (10_(-3)wb)/(m^2)`
