Self - Help

Once, a rich merchant left his city to go to another country for trade. He got into a big ship. He was carrying a trunk full of gold coins and precious stones.

One day a storm started. There were huge waves in the sea water. They moved the ship from side to side. People started screaming in fear. The captain and crew were doing their best to prevent the ship from sinking. A few hours later, the storm stopped but there was a hole in the bottom of the ship. Water started entering the ship. People got off the sinking ship with lifeboats. Some jumped into the sea to swim. While others held on to pieces of wood to stay afloat. The merchant began to pray, "Please God, save my life. If I live, I will offer you a lot of gold."

A man went to the merchant and said, "Don't pray to God. Try to jump and swim to shore. Remember that God helps those who help themselves."

The merchant understood his point and as he could swim, he jumped into the water and saved his life. Then he realized the fact that "Self help is the Best help".
