Question

Differentiate between geitonogamy and xenogamy.

Distinguish Between

Solution

  Xenogamy    Geitonogamy
1. Xenogamy is the transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of a different plant.  1. Geitonogamy is the transfer of pollen from the anther of one flower to the stigma of another flower in the same plant.
2. This is the only type of pollination which during pollination brings genetically different types of pollen grains to the stigma. It is also known as allogamy. 2. Genetically, it is similar to autogamy, since the pollen grains come from the same plant. But it requires pollinating agents that help to transfer the pollen from another flower on the same plant.
3. It is cross-pollination. 3. It is self-pollination.
