1. Adipose tissues are also found in subcutaneous tissue surrounding the kidneys, eyeball, heart, etc. Adipose tissue is called ‘white fat’ or white adipose tissue. The adipose tissue which contains abundant mitochondria is called ‘Brown fat’ or brown adipose tissue.
2. White fat stores nutrients. Brown fat is used to heat the bloodstream to warm the body.
3. Primarily stores energy in the form of fat. Brown fat produces heat by nonshivering thermogenesis in neonates.
4. The appearance of white or yellowish in colour. The brownish colour is due to a rich blood supply and mitochondria.
5. Large fat droplets with a single lipid droplet per cell. Smaller fat droplets with multiple lipid droplets per cell.
6. Found under the skin (subcutaneous fat), around organs, and in the abdomen. It is found in newborns, between the shoulder blades, neck, and along the spine in adults.
