Question
Discuss the role the enzyme DNA ligase plays during DNA replication.
Solution
During replication, the synthesis of a new strand of DNA at a leading parent DNA strand is continuous. However, it is discontinuous at the lagging strand in the form of DNA segments. These DNA segments are known as Okazaki fragments. These fragments are later joined with the help of the enzyme DNA ligase.
