- When many political parties compete for political power and more or less they are equally influential, the party system is called a multi-party system. A multi-party system is a system where multiple political parties that have ideas participate in the national elections.
- A lot of countries that use this system have a coalition government, meaning many parties are in control, and they all work together to make laws.
- Countries with a multi-party political system tend to have greater voter participation.
- No democracy can survive without a multi-party system. After the 1989 Loksabha Elections, the system of one party emerging as the dominant party came to an end. Since then different parties began to come together to form coalition governments.
- The belief that coalition government brings instability was proved wrong by the political party system in our country. In fact, the coalition government system as stabilised in India.
