Question
Divide 54 into two parts such that one part is `2/7` of the other.
Sum
Solution
Let the other part be x.
Then, first part will be `(2x)/7`
According to the question,
`x + (2x)/7 = 54`
⇒ `(7x + 2x)/7 = 54`
⇒ 9x = 7 × 54 ...[By cross-multiplication]
⇒ `x = (7 xx 54)/9`
⇒ x = 7 × 6
⇒ x = 42
Hence, the first part = `(2 xx 42)/7 = 12`
And the other part = 42
