Question

Divide and write the quotient and the remainder.

(3x + 2x2 + 4x3) ÷ (x − 4)

Sum

Solution

(3x + 2x2 + 4x3) ÷ (x − 4)

               4x2 + 18x + 75
`x - 4")"overline(4x^3 + 2x^2+3x+0)`
           4x3 - 16x2
           -      -
                18x2 + 3x + 0
                18x2 - 72x
              -      +
                     75 + 0
                     75x - 300
                    -      +
                              300

So, quotient = 4x2 + 18x + 75 and remainder = 300.
