Question
Divide polynomial 3x3 - 8x2 + x + 7 by x - 3 using synthetic method and write the quotient and remainder.
Solution
Dividend = `3x^3 - 8x^2 + x +7`
Divisor = x - 3
Opposite of −3 = 3
The coefficient form of the quotient is (3, 1, 4).
∴ Quotient = 3x2 + x + 4 and Remainder = 19
