Explain briefly Silviculture. What is its purpose?

Silviculture means timber farming, i.e., growing trees for timber. It can be defined as the science of cultivating trees. The ground is first cleared of all vegetation, well-drained and then seedlings of species are grown in the nurseries before planting. A part of the land is planted with the same species at the same time, so that all the trees mature together and make clear-cutting possible. Foresters make use of the science of genetics to have improved growth rates and resistant to diseases and pests.
Thus, the goal of getting a correct balance between the annual harvest and the growth of wood is achieved and we get a sustained yield of timber.
