Answer in Brief

Solution

Industrialisation is a process of growth and expansion of industries in a country. It has led to environmental degradation in the following ways:

  1. Industrialisation leads to over-utilisation of natural resources such as fossil fuels e.g., coal, gas and petroleum. As a result the natural balance as the ecosystem is disturbed.
  2. Industries generate a lot of waste e.g. acids, metallic compounds, etc.
  3. Industries like paper, sugar mills and cement factories generate huge amount of air pollution.
  4. Industrialisation leads to urbanisation which further leads to deforestation. Forests are cleared for human settlement.
