Industrialisation is a process of growth and expansion of industries in a country. It has led to environmental degradation in the following ways:
- Industrialisation leads to over-utilisation of natural resources such as fossil fuels e.g., coal, gas and petroleum. As a result the natural balance as the ecosystem is disturbed.
- Industries generate a lot of waste e.g. acids, metallic compounds, etc.
- Industries like paper, sugar mills and cement factories generate huge amount of air pollution.
- Industrialisation leads to urbanisation which further leads to deforestation. Forests are cleared for human settlement.
