- Aliphatic aldehydes: The compounds in which the -CHO group (formyl group) is attached directly to the sp3 hybridized carbon atom that is a saturated carbon atom.
e.g. CH3CHO (Acetaldehyde) - Aromatic aldehydes: The compounds in which the –CHO group is attached directly to an aromatic ring are called aromatic aldehydes.
