Question
Explain the classification of coordination complexes on the basis of charge on the complex.
Short Note
Solution
- Cationic complexes: They have a positively charges coordination sphere.
e.g. [Co(NH3)5 Cl]SO4, [Co(NH3)5 Cl]2⊕. - Anionic complexes: They have a negatively charged coordination sphere.
e.g. K3[Fe(CN)6], [Fe(CN6)]3Θ. - Neutral complex: A complex ion which has no net charge is called a neutral complex.
e.g. [Pt(NH3)2], [Ni(CO)4]
