Question
Explain the existence of threshold frequency of incident radiation for photoelectric emission from a given surface.
Explain
Solution
The frequency of incident radiation at which the photoelectric effect does not exist is known as the threshold frequency. The electron has no kinetic energy at the threshold frequency; it is simply ejected. Additionally, the electron is expelled with kinetic energy when the radiation with a frequency higher than the threshold frequency strikes the surface.
