- Reduction in Inequalities of Income: In less developed countries there exists vast inequalities in the distribution of income which are socially undesirable. The government can reduce these inequalities in the following ways:
- Through the policy of progressive taxation.

- By providing subsidised food and other essential items to the poor.
- Welfare state: The government can also undertake the responsibility of the welfare state. Under the policy of welfare state, the government protects the individuals against various contingencies so as to guarantee people a minimum standard of living.
- Public Expenditure Policy: Under its expenditure policy, the government can incur expenditure to benefit the poor. Welfare measures like free education and medical facilities, social security schemes and provision of subsidised goods of common consumption like food can help the poor persons and thereby reduce income inequalities.
